01 / The Foundation

Getting Started

The basic steps for creating your first world and finding the tools you will use at the table.

How Do I Create a Campaign?
  1. Sign in and open the Campaigns tab.
  2. Enter a name in the New campaign name field.
  3. Select Create, then choose the new campaign from your Campaign Library.
Free

Free includes up to three saved campaigns.

Campaign Command Pro

Pro expands the Campaign Library to ten saved campaigns.

How Do I Add a Character?
  1. Select the campaign and open the Party tab.
  2. Select + Character. If the party is empty, use Add your first character.
  3. The Character Settings panel opens automatically. Paste a public D&D Beyond link and sync it, or enter the character information manually.
  4. Select Save character.
Free

Free supports eight characters in each campaign.

Campaign Command Pro

Pro supports fifteen characters in each campaign.

Can I Use Campaign Command Without D&D Beyond?

Yes. In Character Settings, use the Manual Fallback fields for the character's name, ancestry, class, hit points, Armor Class, level, ability scores, death saves, and other available values. You can also enter temporary hit points and conditions manually.

A public D&D Beyond link is optional. Linking one simply makes it easier to refresh supported character information.

How Do I Switch Between Campaigns?

Select the current campaign name near the top of the Studio and choose another campaign from the menu. You can also open Campaigns and select a campaign tile from the Campaign Library.

Where Can I Find the Main Tools?

The top navigation contains Party, Insights, Encounters, Campaigns, Share, and Settings. Pro also adds Session Review. The Dice Roller and Initiative Tracker open from their buttons on the Party page.

02 / The Party

Characters and Synchronization

How public character links, manual updates, synchronization, and character-panel choices work.

How Do I Connect a Public D&D Beyond Character Sheet?
  1. On the Party page, open the character's settings.
  2. Paste the public character URL into D&D Beyond public link.
  3. Select Sync public sheet.
  4. Review the imported information and select Save character.

The character sheet must be publicly shared. Campaign Command never asks for D&D Beyond credentials and does not bypass account or entitlement controls.

What Information Is Read From a Public Character Sheet?

Campaign Command can save supported character details such as name, ancestry, classes and levels, hit points, temporary hit points, Armor Class, ability scores, saving throws, skills, senses, proficiencies, spell names and slots, selected limited-use resources, conditions, exhaustion, and death saves.

It does not import D&D Beyond portraits, full descriptions, rules text, sourcebook text, or the complete source response.

How Do I Refresh Character Information?

Use Sync public sheet inside one character's settings to refresh only that character. Use Sync all at the top of the Party page to refresh every linked character in the active campaign.

Free

Manual synchronization becomes available every ten minutes. Automatic synchronization is not included.

Campaign Command Pro

Manual synchronization becomes available every minute. The active campaign also synchronizes automatically every five minutes.

Why Am I Being Told That I Tried to Sync Too Soon?

The manual synchronization cooldown protects the upstream character service and prevents unnecessary repeat requests. Wait for the time stated in the notification, then try again. The saved character information remains available while you wait.

Free

The manual cooldown is ten minutes. The notification also identifies the faster Pro synchronization options.

Campaign Command Pro

The manual cooldown is one minute, and automatic synchronization continues on its five-minute schedule.

How Do I Choose Which Limited-Use Abilities Appear?
  1. Sync the public character sheet so supported abilities are available.
  2. Open Character Settings and find Panel Abilities.
  3. Select the limited-use abilities you want displayed.
  4. Select Save character.

Newly discovered abilities are hidden by default until the DM chooses them.

How Do I Manually Change Hit Points, Conditions, or Death Saves?

Open Character Settings, make the change in the available manual fields, and select Save character. Death-save fields appear when current hit points are zero. A future successful public-sheet synchronization can replace manual values that also come from the linked sheet.

Can I Use Custom Character Artwork?

Yes. Open Character Settings and upload artwork you created or have permission to use under Custom character art. Campaign Command does not import or reuse D&D Beyond character portraits.

03 / At the Table

Initiative, Concentration, and Encounters

Building turn order, tracking rounds, concentration, durations, creatures, and reusable encounters.

How Do I Build an Initiative Order?
  1. Open the Party tab and select Initiative Tracker.
  2. Use + Party to select party members. Enter final initiative totals manually or choose a roll mode and select Roll selected.
  3. Use + NPC or Creature for enemies, allies, or grouped creatures. Enter a name, initiative, optional modifier, group size, and reminder.
  4. Drag turns or use the arrow buttons to settle ties and special ordering.
  5. Select Begin Encounter.
How Do I Advance or Rewind the Turn Order?

After the encounter begins, use Next Turn to advance or Previous to move back. You can also use Set turn on a specific row when the order needs to jump directly to that combatant.

The current round updates as the tracker wraps through the order. On Pro, linked and round-based Duration Counters also move forward or backward with the tracker.

How Do I Track Concentration?
Free

Select the concentration control on the character card to mark the character as concentrating. Select it again when concentration ends.

Free concentration is manual. Use Initiative Tracker Lite to advance turns and remember when the effect should end.

Campaign Command Pro

You can still toggle concentration manually from the character card or turn row.

For automatic tracking, create a linked Duration Counter and choose the caster. Campaign Command marks the caster as concentrating, ticks the effect with the caster's turn, and ends concentration when the linked counter expires or is removed.

How Do I Add Turns to a Concentration Effect?
Free

Free does not include Duration Counters. Mark the caster as concentrating from the Party card, add the caster to Initiative Tracker Lite, and use Next Turn as normal. End concentration manually when the required number of turns or rounds has passed.

Campaign Command Pro
  1. Add the caster to the Initiative Tracker's turn order.
  2. Open Duration Counters and select + Duration.
  3. Enter the effect or reminder and the number of rounds.
  4. Select any number of targets, or type a custom target and press Enter.
  5. Choose Yes for concentration and select the caster.
  6. Select Add counter.

When the Pro counter is linked to a caster in the turn order, it ticks after that caster's turn. If the caster is already concentrating, Campaign Command asks you to confirm before adding another linked concentration effect.

How Do I Track an Effect That Does Not Require Concentration?
Free

Use the turn reminder field on an NPC or creature, or track the effect outside the app while advancing Initiative Tracker Lite.

Campaign Command Pro

Create a Duration Counter, enter its rounds and optional targets, and answer No to the concentration question. The counter decreases when a new round begins.

Can a Duration Counter Have Multiple Targets?

Yes, with Pro. In the Duration Counter form, select targets from the current turn order or enter a custom target and press Enter. Remove a target with the × on its label.

What Happens If I Manually End Linked Concentration?

Campaign Command warns you that an active linked Duration Counter still exists. Choose Keep concentrating to cancel the change, or End concentration anyway to turn concentration off while leaving the counter active.

How Do I Adjust or Remove a Duration Counter?

Use the minus or plus controls beside the active counter to change its remaining rounds. Use × to remove it. If it is a linked concentration counter, removing it also updates the linked caster's concentration state.

What Do Hidden, Unknown, and Visible Mean for Creatures?
Free

Initiative Tracker Lite is DM-only and does not publish the active order to the shared display.

Campaign Command Pro
  • Hidden: players receive no sign that the creature or turn exists.
  • Unknown: players see an unidentified creature without its private name.
  • Visible: players see the creature's name in the shared initiative order.

While a Hidden creature takes its turn, the player-facing tracker remains on the last visible combatant. It moves to the next visible combatant only after the DM advances past the Hidden turn.

How Do I Create and Load a Prepared Encounter?
  1. Open Encounters and select + New Encounter.
  2. Name the encounter, add private notes, choose how party initiative should be handled, and add each NPC or creature.
  3. Enter or roll initiative, set group size and reminders, then save the encounter.
  4. During play, open the Initiative Tracker and select Load Encounter.
  5. Choose Add to tracker or Replace tracker.
Free

Free includes one saved prepared encounter per campaign.

Campaign Command Pro

Pro includes an unlimited encounter library and starting player-visibility choices for prepared creatures.

What Is the Difference Between Add to Tracker and Replace Tracker?

Add to tracker keeps the current turn order and adds the prepared encounter's available entries. Replace tracker clears the current order, timers, and Duration Counters before loading the prepared encounter.

Which Initiative Tools Require Pro?

Free includes party and custom turns, rolled or manual initiative, ordering, previous and next turns, a round counter, and saved active encounter state. Pro adds combat and turn timers, Duration Counters, fixed initiative counts, advanced creature visibility, player-facing initiative, and a separate pop-out tracker window.

04 / Across the Table

Sharing and Player Displays

Creating a player-facing view while keeping DM-only information and controls private.

How Do I Create a Shared Player View?
  1. Select the campaign and open Share.
  2. Turn Sharing is on.
  3. Select Copy link to send the URL, or Open shared display to open it on another screen.
Free

Free includes one standard read-only link for each campaign.

Campaign Command Pro

Pro includes up to five independently configured links per campaign, each with a private DM label, preset, expiration, and visibility settings.

Do Players Need an Account to Open a Shared Display?

No. Anyone with an active link can open the read-only display without signing in. Treat the link as shareable information and send it only to people who should see that campaign view.

Can a Player Trigger a D&D Beyond Sync?

No. Shared displays receive only Campaign Command's saved copy. They cannot contact D&D Beyond or start a manual or automatic synchronization request.

How Do I Control What Players Can See?
Free

The standard link provides the core read-only campaign view using the Free sharing defaults.

Campaign Command Pro

Edit a selected link and choose a preset or custom combination. You can control character details, spell slots, selected limited-use abilities, conditions and concentration, shared dice rolls, initiative, initiative scores, and whether the full turn order is visible.

How Do I Disable or Replace a Shared Link?

Open Share. Turn sharing off to make the selected link private without deleting the campaign. Select Replace share link when you want every copy of the old URL to stop working immediately. The former URL then shows Campaign Command's invalid-link screen.

How Do I Share a Dice Roll with the Party?
Free

Free Dice Roller results remain private in the DM's current browser session.

Campaign Command Pro

Open the Dice Roller, choose Share with Party under Roll Visibility, build the roll, and roll it. The result appears temporarily on the active campaign's shared display when that link allows shared DM rolls.

Does the Shared Display Reveal Hidden Initiative Turns?

No. A Hidden creature creates no player-facing indication. The public tracker remains on the last visible turn until the DM advances to the next visible combatant.

05 / Behind the Screen

Insights, Sessions, and Appearance

Using party analysis, private rolls, session notes, reviews, and campaign appearance.

What Does Party Insights Show?
Free

Free shows Party Endurance, Average AC, Session Readiness, ability leaders, and saving-throw leaders.

Campaign Command Pro

Pro adds complete comparisons, weaknesses, skill coverage, languages, senses and passive scores, spell-slot readiness, and limited-use resource readiness.

Insights use character information already saved in Campaign Command and do not make an additional D&D Beyond request.

How Do I Use the Dice Roller Privately?

Open the Dice Roller from the Party page, leave Private to DM selected, choose the dice and modifier, and roll. Private results stay in the current DM browser session. Display Settings control how many result cards remain visible and when they disappear.

How Do I Start a Session Review?

Session Review is a Pro feature. On the Party page, select Start Session, optionally enter a title, and confirm. While the session is active, use + Quick Note to save private categorized notes. Select End Session, then End and Review when play is finished.

What Does Session Review Record?

While a session is active, Campaign Command builds a private timeline from changes to saved hit points, temporary hit points, spell slots, limited-use resources, conditions, concentration, death saves, and combat timing. It also keeps the DM's Quick Notes. This tracking uses saved Campaign Command data and does not create extra D&D Beyond reads.

How Do I Change a Campaign's Appearance?

Open Settings, find Campaign Theme, and choose one of the standard themes. Changes preview immediately.

Free

Free includes the coordinated standard themes.

Campaign Command Pro

Pro also unlocks exact background, border, status, heading, and section-label colors, plus custom backdrop artwork and reusable custom theme presets.

How Do I Save and Reuse a Custom Theme?

With Pro, adjust the custom appearance, optionally upload an authorized backdrop, enter a name under Saved custom themes, and select Save current theme. A saved preset can then be applied, updated from the current campaign, or deleted. Pro supports up to twelve saved custom theme presets.

Plans, Billing, and Data

Plan limits, pricing, subscriptions, ownership, deletion, privacy, and support.

Is Free Only a Trial or Demo?

No. Free is a continuing plan with core campaign tools. It includes three campaigns, eight characters per campaign, one shared display link, one prepared encounter per campaign, manual concentration, a private Dice Roller, basic Party Insights, and Initiative Tracker Lite.

How Much Will Campaign Command Pro Cost?

The planned launch price is $3.99 per month or $39.99 per year, with a 30-day free trial. Paid subscriptions are not yet available during private development. Any applicable taxes and final checkout terms will be shown before purchase.

What Happens If My Pro Membership Ends?

Campaign Command does not intentionally delete saved campaign or character data solely because Pro ends. Pro-only tools become unavailable, and you may be unable to create more items until your usage is within Free limits. Existing extra records can still be reduced through the appropriate management controls.

Does Deleting a Character or Campaign Change D&D Beyond?

No. Deleting an item from Campaign Command removes the saved Campaign Command copy and related app data. It does not delete, edit, or otherwise modify the character or account in D&D Beyond.

What Is the Difference Between Delete All Saved Data and Delete Account?

Delete all saved data removes campaigns, saved characters, uploads, and the per-user rate-limit record while retaining the minimal Campaign Command account link and Clerk login.

Delete account removes that saved data, the internal Campaign Command account link, and the Clerk sign-in account. Neither option deletes or modifies accounts held by Google, Discord, D&D Beyond, or other third parties.

Is Campaign Command an Official D&D Beyond Product?

No. Campaign Command is an independent, unofficial service and is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored, or approved by Wizards of the Coast or D&D Beyond.

Where Can I Get Help with Something Not Covered Here?

Email support@thecampaigncommand.com. Include the part of Campaign Command you were using, what you expected to happen, and any visible message. Do not send passwords, authentication codes, or other account credentials.
